Bleeding, sad heart.

Denial: The initial stage: "It can't be happening."
Anger: "Why me? It's not fair."
Bargaining: "Just let me live to see my children graduate."
Depression: "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"
Acceptance: "It's going to be OK."

I went through all of the 5 stages of grief rapid fire yesterday while reading the news. You may have noticed there was no Sinki yesterday. I suspect I'm going through them again today...

I am a politics geek. You know this. I know this. While Jim and I were dating, a hot night consisted of watching a few episodes of "The West Wing" on DVD. I know. Geek. It is my own personal freak flag to fly.

So, you all know I [insert thoughtful metaphor of my firm belief in/jr. high school girl crush here] John Edwards.

And perhaps you've heard he's out of the race as of yesterday. Go and read his speech - and then sit and be sad for a moment with me - if you agree - for he would have been a great person to lead our country.

He has a vision of America that I share, and an energy and plan to try to transform this wonderful country into that vision.

Right now folks, America is like a puppy who has had too many accidents in the house, who drags your underwear out of the bedroom just as company shows up, a puppy who yaps and yaps and yaps... at nothing. The puppy can grow to be strong and smart and loyal, and can learn that peeing on the kitchen floor is just not acceptable. With the right guidance.

Who do I want holding the leash now? I've got some work to do in terms of familiarizing myself with the other options.

BUT - in his speech Edwards says:
"Today, I am suspending my campaign for the Democratic nomination for the Presidency. "
And the bargaining part of me considers the implications of the word "suspending."

Greg Brown is one of my favorite musicians. "I Want My Country Back" is a song that made me cry the first oh... 20 times I heard it. Click here to see a video of him singing it live.

I love this country. I just wish it would stop chewing up my shoes.

Very nice tribute to Edwards.

By the way, one of my favorite gifts that I received for Christmas this year was the season 2 DVD set of West Wing. Best show EVER. -- Keri (Kasa)

Aw shoot... I'm cool with people not wanting to jump through the hoops to be listed here as anything other than anonymous, and I'm really glad when people sign their anon. comments with some identifier.
But the totally anon. comments leave me wondering. They are also more than likely from my mom.
And I hate to make these kind of comments to my mom, but:
"... matters beyond our grasp"?! What? - you're an American. You [probably, not sure if it's mom] vote. The presidental election is not beyond our grasp. Giving up like that is apathy, and apathy is why the dog continues to pee in your shoes. Being all zen about Spring will not improve my/our country. Thinking/talking/sharing and doing something about it will.
Though... mmmmm... lilacs. Soon!
Sorry mom? (MOM?) Love you, see you soon.

I sure hope anon is getting a huge chuckle now that I got "blown away" with a pretty hot tirade !!!
Sorry babe, that wasn't me .....
and I am not sorry that wasn't me because everyone CAN DO something about it.
Still love you though.

I was an Edwards fan too, and sad to see him go. Hopefully this isn't the last we've seen of him this race though...I've still got visions of an Obama/Edwards ticket.

Love calls like the wild birds--
it's another day.
A Spring wind blew my list of
things to do...away.

My friends are gettin older,
so I guess I must be too.
Without their loving kindness,
I don't know what I'd do.
Oh the wine bottle's half empty--
the money's all spent.
And we're a cross between our parents
and hippies in a tent.

Sorry mom, I thought that was odd coming from you. And given my cranky old lady nature of yesterday, that was far from a tirade.
Other anon. - I see where you're going now. But still...

Amy, I was thinking of you too. I think unfortunately, he was the vicitim of circumstance both times. Not well known enough and then paired with Kerry in his first campaign, and this time, he was the third fiddle to the first viable female and first viable African-American candidates.

This may end up being the best thing for John Edwards and his family. His wife (who rocks the HOUSE) has incurable cancer and if her health worsens, those kids will need him more than America does.

Also, this consoles me: If Obama wins, they seemed to have warm personal regard for each other, and picture this: Attorney General John Edwards, or, even, dare we hope, Supreme court Justice John Edwards. Think about the good he could do.

And I knew I liked you--I was a total West Wing Addict, although I got disgusted and stopped watching it after Aaron Sorkin left, and then went back for the last season. I kept thinking of the paralell between Santos and Edwards--he was supposed to be a no-hoper and ended up winning so I had hope for John Edwards until this week. Still wish I could voted for him here.
